  1. I’m looking to purchase some new sanding equipment for my intarsia work. Up to now I have been using a dermal tool with flex shaft, but it’s too slow and messy for most pieces. I have done some with a drum sanding unit on a drill press. I have been looking at the Fordom variable speed bench lathe, or maybe a slower speed grinder with a flex drum sander.... what do you folks use.... advise... thanks for you input, I need it... oleranger.... aka Max
  2. Thanks guys.... I have a call into Ray... he's suppose to be calling me back later today. I didn't buy from Seyco, and it's 7 years old, but maybe he'll help me with a fix. If not Zen, I may take you up on your offer. Knew I could get some good help from this site... Yer all the best... Ye Ole Ranger
  3. OK all you scroll saw maniacs... I need some help... I have an Excaliber 21 and love the saw to death. Best I have ever used. However, I have a problem that I'm not sure how to fix. Just recently my tension bar at the top of the cutting head, starting vibrating loose during a cut. It wasn't too bad at first, but has gotten progressively worse over the past few days. I took the whole thing apart, cleaned it and back together and it's doing the same thing. Is there an adjustment I'm missing? Anyone have a similar experience and have a fix for it? I suspect it's something simple, but it's got me bewildered at this point. I went through the operating manual, but couldn't find any mention of this. Any trouble shooting locations someone knows about that they can share with me. I would appreciate any help anyone has on this one. Thanks Ye Ole Ranger
  4. Mike... a fantastic piece... congratulations on such a special piece.
  5. Good advice all... thanks so much.... I read your comments and it boosts my confidence... Thanks...
  6. The project I'm doing is "End of the Trail" Indian warrior on a horse with lance down. I'm not sure who designed the original, but got the pattern from Kirk Boleman. Anyway, it's about 180 pieces. It's about 2 foot in diameter, and most of the detail is with the horse and the rider. I've done a couple of others before, a ship wheel and a tazmainian devil, which had fewer pieces but were also in circles. On both of them I started from the outside and worked in. On the ship wheel that approach worked out well. On the Tazmainian it was a struggle as I got to the inside with more detailed pieces. This one is about the same size, but more than double the pieces. Hope this additional information helps. I do need the advice of an expert. Thanks for the comments so far, and any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated. Ye Ole Ranger
  7. I have a question for all you Intarsia specialists. I'm just getting started doing this. Have done a few simple pieces, now about to tackle one that is a bit more difficult. Up to now, I have been starting on one side of the piece and moving through it to the other side. The one I'm about to attempt is round with a series of boarder pieces. My question is... is it better to start from the outside and work in? or would I be better to start in the center of the piece and work out, with the boarder being my final pieces. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. ye Ole Ranger
  8. tvman.... that would be much appreciated. My e-mail address is oleranger@hotmail.com.... probably easier if you could send it vs. my trying to find it.... Thank you so very much Max aka oleranger
  9. I hate to admit this, but I can't find the manual for my Excalibur EX-21. I have had the saw for about a year and I love it. I'm concerned with and about maintenance. Is there some sort of maintenance I should be doing with this saw? I don't know where to go to get another manual, so am posing the question here. Also, when I raise the arm to change blades, it won't stay in the upright on it's own; I have to hold it up. Is there some sort of adjustment that I can make to have the arm stay in upright position as I change blades. Anyone that has a manual that can give me a cast up on these questions is greatly appreciated. Max aka oleranger
  10. My name is Max and I have been scrolling off and on for almost 20 years. Still learning and developing my skills. I recently retired and so now have plenty of time to pursue my scrolling desires. I just purchased my 3rd saw, and Excalibur and I'm loving it. Still trying to work out the bugs and adjust to a new saw, so am breaking habits developed with over 15 years on a Delta. I am having a few glitches and was wondering if there is anyone here who uses an Excalibur and can help me with my concerns. Good to be with you.... Ye Ole Ranger
