  1. ...and I'm new to this forum. I have always wanted a scroll saw after learning how to make simple children's puzzles in an early childhood workshop. Finally, 12 years or so later my wish came true. In November I got a DeWalt 788 for my birthday. I'm playing with it on weekends and have filled the shelves in my classroom with puzzles. This past weekend I bought myself a Rigid table saw so I can cut straight lines for my puzzle backings. That machine is a little scary for me, but I'll get used to it. I live in California and can do most of my sawing out in the front yard during the day time, but when evening comes and I just can't quit I am slowly turning our dining room into my workshop. I have also invaded the kitchen counter. I am addicted and have my husband bringing me home wood scraps from the different job sites that he goes to. I made my first toy this past weekend and now I find myself looking through school catalogs and saying, "Hey, I can make that!" I have a lot to learn and have been enjoying this forum since finding it back in November. Thank you in advance for answering all the questions I'm sure I'm going to asking on this board. Paulina
  2. Hello, this is my first post. I need some help with suggestions for non toxic, natural finishes/polishes for children's toys. I've colored my pieces with food coloring and with liquid water color. I am happy with the colors. I would like to put something on them to protect them. I did search on this forum and learned that bees wax is used, but not how to use it. I rubbed it on, right out of the package and didn't really see anything. I warmed it up abit and it left little bumps all over the piece that I could not rub in. I tried melting the bees wax and adding flax oil. At first it was too hard when it cooled (or so I thought) so I added more oil, then it came out clumpy. It also discolored the piece. What's the secret to bee's wax? What am I doing wrong? Also, how do I get it into the little spaces/nooks and crannies? Is there something all together different that would work? I've tried to attach a photo of the pieces I am working on now. Thank you, Paulina
