  1. Looking forward to seeing the new look on here. Hope everyone has posted to stay onboard.
  2. No wonder you're "amazingkevin". You do some amazing cuts! This is very nice. Is the pattern original?
  3. As an experiment I put a piece of unpainted, unfinished, MDF in a glass of water the other day. The MDF was about 1/4 inch tapering to 0 and about three inches long. I was thinking of making some necklace pendants from it and I wanted to see how it might hold up under sweat and humidity. I forgot about putting it in until the next week when I was able to get back into the shop. I pulled this sliver out of the glass again and it was slightly pliable but still rather strong and had not lost it's shape. I checked the flexibility and it was still firm although a little bendable but not in the thicker part. I then dried it out to see how it worked. It was just like new cutting it and it still retained the original shape. My opinion, for what it's worth, is that it will definitely hold up under the heat, humidity and use of being a wearable. I'll be doing some more!
  4. Kevin-- PM sent
  5. Very nice. You did a really good job. Wish mine had turned out like that but I'm still learning. It's hanging on my shop wall now. I'm still cutting though.
  6. For me it might be Jesus on the cross. The interesting thing here, I think, is how many are saying that the scroll saw keeps them sane. I can relate to this too, because I feel the same. Like everyone I have problems and trials that just keep rolling over me. However, when I go out to scroll those problems disappear. Perhaps it is that scrolling out a pattern is a task that you can find a solution for and that you can see the outcome. Whatever it is my saw keeps me sane too, in a world of madness. I also agree with Wombatie in that I have finally found something I am good at.
  7. Wow! Haven't thought about Howdy in years. Yeah, I remember watching on the old b/w tv when I was a kid.
  8. While you are at dafont take a look at the "dingbat" fonts. Those contain shapes that may also be helpful when making patterns if you increase the size of the font. For example under "animals" you will find fonts that create birds or fish or animal tracks and more. You will just have to look to see the variety.
  9. Try dafont.com there you can pick different fonts, download and install on your computer. They are free but you have to watch for the licensing notes.
  10. These are great lists and sound really interesting. How are they accessed? Order back copies or is there a link? I don't know what to do next.
  11. I use basically the same system as MrsN. Mine are all digital but every few weeks I back them up to a cd. Only costs me about 10 cents per cd and it's cheap insurance. Also when I check my computer for ideas it shows me a preview and I don't have to look through a lot of paper copies or dig through a bunch of folders.
  12. I had the same problem and the zero clearance helped me a lot. I change it out a lot though to get the sanding blades to work.
  13. Ha ha ha! I need a girl like that too! "A girl like dear old dad's" so the song goes. I'm tired of women who go by the name of J. Peg. ha ha ha
  14. Mine are all digital; well what is not already printed off and spread around the shop. As I acquire more printed I scan them in. Later, every few weeks, I make a backup copy of my patterns on a cd. That way I won't lose much in a crash. I have patterns divided into general topics like; animal, western, sports, whatever. I haven't any oversize patterns nor books or magazines so I can't be of help there; sorry.
  15. I too, really like MDF but the painting was a problem. What is MDF sealer and where is it found? I mean, lowes, home depot or a craft shop?
  16. Hello to all; I'm C. Powell from down Houston way. I am just learning about scrolling and have been practicing for a couple of months now. I'm not good at all yet for various reasons but I have learned a lot in the past couple of months. I'm here to learn more. This is a very interesting hobby I've found and I enjoy the time I get to spend on the saw. I just wish to be and get better at it. I have a saw from Harbor Freight that I bought on sale just to give this hobby a whirl. Wish now I had gotten a better one. That'll have to wait till later though now. Anyway, I'm glad to be here and am soaking up the learning. C. Powell
