Thank you for the great advice guys - will contact mike and see what he recommends too!

Hi Guys 'n' Gals! Can anyone please recommend a suitable blade that will give a clean cut on hardwood around 1.5" thick and still allow a reasonably tight cutting turn? Blades are not easy to get in Thailand so I have been using a No.12 but it's not up to the job - something a little more heavy duty is called for! Any advice on blades and where to get them would be much appreciated! Cheers, Greg. :-)

Hi Marge, Thank you for your welcome message - it's nice to meet you! You have produced some very fine work - Malbry mill is a stunning piece - very nicely done! My saw did come with a blower which was attached to the 'hold down' clamp. I removed the arm as I prefer to work without one - seems to give me a bit more control over the work-piece. Not safe practice I know but just personal preference. I have a large floor-standing fan that I position next to the saw which blows all the dust (and my work-piece if I'm not careful!) away. It's a bit crude but it works! I will get around to sorting a better system out at some point. Keep up the great work, Best wishes, Greg -

Hi Mike, Thank you for your message - and for the advice re a larger table area. I do have a piece of MDF covering the table but I really need to replace with a bigger, thicker piece as you suggest. Thailand - wonderful place and I am truly blessed to be living here in gorgeous rural Isaan - in the north east of Thailand. Have been here nearly two years and still have to pinch myself now and then just to make sure I'm not in some kind of wonderful dream.... The saw is better than I expected and 22" does come in handy sometimes. I just need to be able to get some decent blades as I tend to use very hard, dense tropical hardwoods - Mai Deang, Teak, Mai Padoo (not sure if my spellings are correct!) amongst others, often in excess of 1" thick - as well as MDF for some of the templates / stencils. Great to meet you my friend, All the best, Greg. -

Many thanks for the warm welcome guys - it's great to meet you all! Not surprised you couldn't find the saw Kevin - it's probably made in china and marketed under several names. I bought it at a DIY store and to be honest I was surprised to find one over here. It's very basic but I'm not complaining - it does the job and has proved to be reliable up to now so happy days! Have added a few pics so you can get a better idea.... Greg -

Hello everyone, Hope you are all well and that life is treating you kindly! I'm a Brit now living in Thailand where I have managed to buy a very basic 22" scroll saw called a 'Bigwood' - not a Hegner by a long shot but it allows me to indulge my 20 year passion for Scroll sawing - particularly fretwork. I first got hooked after buying 'Scroll saw Puzzle patterns' by Patrick Spielman many years ago - and have loved scroll sawing ever since. I'm no expert, always learning and being in Thailand means that half decent blades are hard to come by but as you can see from the photo's, there is some fantastic tropical hardwoods to work with here and I have managed to turn out the odd acceptable piece along the way - and a lot of dodgy ones too it has to be said! Looking forward to meeting you all, getting some good advice and I have been blown away by some of the fine work featured in the gallery - awesome doesn't quite cover it and makes my efforts seem quite humble in comparison! Still, onwards and upwards as they say! Catch you later, Greg
