  1. Iron sharpens iron means: Someone in a role of authority can hone his subordinates into better employees by being diligent and not being soft on them. This also applies to parenting!! LOL. You don't sharpen a knife with a soft sponge, you need an good hard sharpening steel to get a razor edge!
  2. Hi all, I am wondering if there is some software or something out there where a guy can figure out which pieces of wood will come out of a larger piece of stock. I guess for a better description, is there like a digital graph paper out there or something that I can add all the required sizes of the pieces I need for a project onto a larger, nominally sized piece of wood, to avoid waste? As a backup, I am thinking of cutting cereal boxes or something thin like that up and marking their sizes on them and laying them on a piece of wood before I cut out the different pieces I need. Just wondering if anyone has any good tips or knows of some program that I can get. Thanks Dan
  3. Hello everyone! I am new to scrolling. I am from Pittsburgh, the city of champions. I was helping the neighbor build his deck, went to Lowe's and they had a Porter Cable scroll saw for 2 hundo, so I bought it. I got online, checked out some stuff, and just ordered some plans for a santa's workshop clock! I have a brand new grand daughter and I suspect she will love it when she get a little older with the elf swinging on the pendulum and Santa looking through the window! So, I will be scouring this site for tid bits to make things go a bit easier. This clock doesn't appear to have too much that looks overly complicated, but I saw some plans for some others that I would consider tackling, that would have a couple hundred inside cuts and whatnot, and I am going to try to work up to those! I travel for work, and I have been to every state and probably within 75 miles of any city that any of you live in, save for Alaska or Hawaii (too long of a plane ride). I have been working a ton in the New Orleans area the last year, however, and have to say they have the best cuisine going.......Among my favorite places are: San Luis Obispo, San Francisco, Buffalo (Texas), San Clemente, Beulah North Dakota, and Brattleboro, Vermont. I have slow seasons and this scrolling will help occupy the time between me shattering the neighbors windows cranking out Paradise City or Little Fighter on my kit!! I am also a complete and total drumming psycho and Guns and Roses is the best band ever. I have a drumset that has 11 drums, and 14 cymbals all set up on a big rack! Double kick pedal, plastic block, cowbell, etc. It is a killer kit, all birch BTW, and sounds great! I have two other sets that are ready to rock as well. One is a mint condition, 1968 Slingerland kit!! Well that's about it. I suspect this forum to be a tad different than Pearl..... and will try to play nice .....LOL. Toodles Dan
