  1. One thing you might try is taking a spray bottle of water and spraying the areas with burning. Let the board dry. The water will leave the grain raised just enough that another light pass with the router and the burning should be gone. Give it a try. Regards Mike in TN
  2. Jim Finn - I have a black and decker rotary tool, like a Dremel, mounted in a Hobby pro drill press accessary. I have it tilted to 6° from ninety, for doing inlay work. A friend of mine is looking for a plunge router type accessary for his Dremel but one that will drill a hole at an angle other than 90°. Like 6° off of ninety. Does anyone know of one? Jim, Just a thought, but would it be possible to mount a wood plate cut into a wedge at the desired angle your friend wants. The wedge plate mounted to the plunge router should result in the angled holes he is looking to drill. Seems like this migt be an answer to your friends problem. Let me know - I might want to try it also!! Mike
  3. Hi Denny! Welcome to the village. I am also a neighbor in Mt. Juliet, TN. I am a newby to scrollsawing. I just got my Excaliber 21 and am learning how to use it. The folks here are terrific. We would love to see some of your work. Don't hesitate to post photos. Mike
  4. Scott, I can eco your comments about orders for Flying Dutchman blades. I placed my order on the exact same day as you and recieved my blades on Wednesday just as you did. The only difference is I placed my order through Mike's Workshop website. This is my first order and first experience with the FD blades. Mike
  5. Very nicely done. I'm sure your customer will be very pleased!!
  6. Very nicely done, Dick. On the Jesus portrait, what size material did you use and were you using a spiral blade? Mike
  7. My Excaliber 21 came in yesterday. I completed the assembly of the stand and got it all set up last night. I look forward to spending many hours making sawdust. That brings me to my question - What do you recommend as a stool or chair that would support you and comfortably allow you to sit and scroll?? I did a search of the forum and I saw mention of both stools and chairs. But, no real recommendation based on your experience while scrolling. If it's a chair, do you recommend arms? If you would like to post a photo of your scrolling "office" showing the stool/chair you recommend, feel free. Thanks Mike
  8. Great looking boxes, Randy. I'm interested in making boxes also. Mike
  9. Thanks everyone for the kind welcomes! I look forward to sharing laughs and tears as I saw and learn. --Randy, I attended the first Scrollsaw Picnic that Sloans had at Ceaders of Lebanon Park many years ago. I'm finally getting around to getting a saw. Mike
  10. WOW!!!! I too am new to scroll sawing and intarsia. All I can say is this piece is just STUNNING! It's pieces like this that make me want to do intarsia! I hope to be able to complete something like this when I grow up (scroll saw wise). Mike
  11. Very nice! I'm looking forward to having the skills to do work like this. MIke
  12. Man, I love your truck!! Great job. Mike
  13. I've always wanted to learn to scroll saw. I just ordered an Excaliber 21 from Ray at Seyco that should arrive sometime next week. As I was checking out suppliers, I discovered that Sloan's Woodshop was about 15 minutes from me. I stopped by and met David and Rhonda yesterday. They are really nice folks. I got samples of various blades and some wood to practice and learn when on I get my saw. I can hardly wait. I enjoy and appreciate all that share your knowledge and projects here at SSV. I know I will have plenty of questions as I start my scroll saw adventure. I would like to find other scrollers that are near me in TN. If you're a neighbor, don't be bashful - step up and introduce yourself. I'd love to see your projects and see how you do 'em. Regards, Mike
