  • Gender:
    Male
  • Scroll Saw:
DeWalt 788, and an old Craftsman 18"
  • Project Types:
I have done a few fretwork patterns and attempted some intarsia, but I didn't like my craftsman, so I have not scrolled much in the last few years. I am hoping that I like the DeWalt 788 I got for my birthday because I would really like to do some fretwork and portraits.

  • Pattern Designer:
    No
  • Design Software:
I'm trying to learn pattern design in photoshop

I have some good books on turning - turning green wood is probably my favorite. I'm always looking for a good book to learn from if you have suggestions.
  • Favorite TV Shows:
Well, anything Marvel or DC comics related, Agents of Shield, the Flash, Arrow, etc. I also like the new show Designated Survivor, Blacklist, Blindspot and all of the Chicago series - Med, Fire, and PD.

Star Wars series - Especially the originals, Young Guns, and most any of the comic book based - Avengers, Spiderman, Man of Steel, Batman, Transformers, X-men etc.
  • Two Truths & A Lie:
I have been to 18 countries and 48 states in the U.S.
I once got 4 tickets removed from my record for attending driving school, one of which was failure to yield and another was exhibition of speed.
I have degrees in electronics engineering, engineering design and culinary management.

    DeWalt DW788

I just got a DW788 v2 for my birthday and I LOVE IT!!! It is soooo much better than my old Craftsman. Blade change is a breeze, it is so quiet when I'm scrolling, and feeding the blade and adjusting the tension is my favorite part. I do mostly fretwork, and being able to set the tension every time with the tension bar in front saves me a TON of time, and I haven't broken a blade yet, which is saying somthing because I probably broke about 2-4 blades per project on my Craftsman... Did I say - LOVE IT!
  2. Thank you everyone... I will be giving it to her on Monday... I'm hoping that she likes it.
  3. Yes, the feather was designed by Janevski... thank you for that, I couldn't remember who it was.
  4. Nice piece... I'm hoping to learn to make my own patterns soon as well.
  5. This is a piece I did as a memorial for a friend of mine who lost her baby 2 days before she was due. The feather and birds are cut, the lettering was burned using pyrography.
  6. Thanks everyone for the great comments... yes, I made the frame as well... thanks for pointing out the hand-print Jerry - I'll have to remind myself to wipe things down before taking pictures for my site.
  7. Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. Janie - as far as my outlet for my projects. To start with, I'm going to be giving them as gifts, but I already do some craft shows throughout the year for my turning projects, so I was thinking about adding some scroll work to my table to add more selection. I am also doing some wood rings here soon.
  8. Here is a pic of the last project I did before we moved into the new house. It's Baltic birch ply with a Baltic birch ply stained background. The frame is blood wood.
  9. Hey everyone - A little about me - I'm married to a wonderful woman, Wendi (14 years come February), and we have two children, Adam and Destany, who are both moved out and married and on their own. So, now we have two dogs, and Wendi's Mom, Wanda, who share the house with us. I am an architectural drafter by trade, but spent 12 years in the Navy as an Electronics Technician/Fire Controlman. I'm a new/returning scroller. I did some projects a few years back, and really like fretwork, but I hated changing the blades on my Craftsman, so I gave it up for a bit while I went to school and we moved around a bit. I recently pulled the old Craftsman out to make a sign for my turning business, and remembered how much I liked scrolling. So, my mother-in-law was kind enough to get me a DeWalt 788 for my 45th birthday, and I'm ready to get started back into it. I'm very interested in learning to make patterns, as I would like to do portraits. I have Photoshop and Illustrator, but have to figure out how to use them. (Hopefully Wendi will help me, because she's awesome like that, and she's my wife). I'll post a few of my past projects in the Gallery later, I only have a few so far. Can't wait to start using the new DeWalt and seeing what kind of new ideas I can come up with for some projects!
