Thanks for the compliment
Here is a pretty late reply.
It’s 27” x 20” and weighs 9 pounds
I used poplar, maranti, walnut, pine and cherry
i estimate it took me about two months
Here is an Intarsia I just finished. “ The Knock “ pattern was by Bruce Worthington , 282 pieces, including the the pieces I couldn’t use , I actually made about 380 pieces.
I’m thinking about doing the above intarsia from the Wooden Teddybear, but at 580 pieces I’m somewhat intimidated. Has anyone ever done this? How do you keep track of all the pieces?
Thanks
Dennis
First picture is of an Intarsia seascape I just finished. Pattern by Bruce Worthington.
second picture is of all the pieces I made 2 or 3 or even 4 times
I use the Duck shelf liner. I just went on Amazon and they are offering a 12”x 36” size for $8.74, I ordered one, it’s about $21 at Walmart. I think it’s a one day sale, just today
I always number the parts when making intarsia, this has worked well with up to 100 or so parts. I’m thinking about a very large intarsia, approximately 800 parts, how would you keep track of all these parts, many of which are too small to number?
Thanks
Dennis
The wood for the cardinal is maranti, it has a reddish tinge. I had my porch redone with Trex and I kept some old wood, maranti, ( I think I now have a lifetime supply) which was still in good shape. I did touch up the cardinal with some very thinned out red acrylic paint and some highlights with very thinned out grey acrylic paint.
Here’s a cardinal made with marente (sp?) pine, cherry and poplar
I hadn’t seen the same intarsia by Grandpa Jim when I posted this. What are the odds of the same pattern being posted consecutively?
Here’s a parrot, pattern by Garnet Hall. Painting the pieces requires quite a bit more time to complete the project. After completing this, I prefer simply using different types of wood for color contrasts. Of course, given the colors in this project, it had to be painted.
I just bought the Pegas and am very happy with it. ( for $750 I better be☺). I had an older Delta ( ss350?), It was ok but can't compare to the Pegas. They are really in different classes of saws.
