  1. I looked at that but the issue was under the arm, not on top of it. In the end I laid the saw in its side and took the rubber bushing off the piece, giving my big fingers room to get in between and start the screw. Then I put the bushing back on and it worked out fine. I mounted a blade and got it working after some fussing around.
  2. A Central Machinery and I got the Olson Saw kit. A lot of it was me and figuring out how to get my hand in there. Once it was in it works great.
  3. I got the top part on with no trouble. The bottom was another matter. I finally got the existing piece off. My saw has very little working room down there. I finally got it off then had a hard time getting the screw for the new piece started on the bottom. After some effort I finally got my big, fat fingers in there and got the screw started and attached the bottom piece. I then had some work to get the blade in and figured that out. Tested it and am very happy with the way the blades cut and their ability to do a neat right turn. Maybe I can work on something new tomorrow.
  4. OK, I think you are correct. I will make another attempt. I am cutting through 1 3/4 inches of wood. I will put a new blade in a double check the squareness of the table to the blade. I appreciate all of your help. I could also cut thinner pieces and stack them, I guess.
  5. I found this pattern online... it was free. Actually, the yin-yang thing is not what I want, but it was the pattern I had so I tried it. I got the cover and bottom cut out just fine. Then the main body was cut, but I could not get the center out once I cut it. I actually broke the exterior part trying to get it out. How do I avoid the part I cut out getting jammed in? Drill more holes? Cut out smaller parts at a time? Any suggestions on how to avoid this? What I really want to make, and could make as gifts, is a salt box for the kitchen. They are usually round, with a wooden cover and about the size of this, but the cover is one piece. I would probably make a stylized S and put it on the top. So, I really don't need a pattern, I need to know how to do it without getting the center piece stuck? pattern.pdf
  6. You guys are amazing. Thank you so much. Never occurred to me to raise the back of the saw but I will do that. I need to look at a stool. I have an old office chair out there and I could also LOWER the saw and make it so that chair works for me. I just started this journey and your advice is so much appreciated. So, now that I have some pointers, is there anywhere to buy spiral blades with t-shanks? I can't find them on Amazon and my google search was inconclusive. If not how good are the conversion kits to put a shankless blade on my saw?
  7. Thank you for your welcomes. I just posted some projects in the bragging rights. I have no basement or would use that. Not many houses here in the Boise area have basements. My dream is a workshop or third garage bay I can use.
  8. It took some work, but here is my setup right now. I just measured and the saw table is 37-38 inches from the floor. I find when I work for more than a little while my back gets stiff. Is there a recommended height for the saw? I am about 5 foot 9 (or was ) so, is there a guideline you guys use? I have a magnifying light and a foot pedal added to it and put a hose on the blower, which has helped a great deal. Thank you for any advice!
  9. I got a scroll saw to help my wife with a project. It is a used Harbor Freight model, but it works pretty well. I have done some practice. Right now it is in the garage, which is quite cold, so I am not doing much. These are two of my current projects. I can't seem to get the letters for the unit patch nice enough, so my son has 3d printed me letters I will glue on. It is from my old regiment, the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment. The puzzles are for my new grandson.
  10. Of all the tools I have owned, this is one I have probably enjoyed the most in the short time I have had it. I will post some pictures of my first projects later. I have made some stuff like the crest from my old regiment and a stand for my headphones. I have some other ideas, but right now it is 30 degrees in my garage, just a bit old to spend time out there. I am glad to find this forum and will be taking advantage of your experience and expertise.
