oldhudson Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 (edited) I think that I'll be completed and installing the vanity this weekend. I've taken some photos from the dry fit. Here is a view of the back and from the floor of the cabinet. Same view but I slide the back out. Here's a detail of the groove the back slides into. The back also slips into a groove in the bottom of the nail rail. After the dry fit I moved the whole project to the dinning room. The dinning room is where I glued and/or screwed the elements together. I didn't want to carry this up the stairs and around the corners. As it is it'll have to stand on end to get into the bathroom. The next step then is to add the drawer slides. I use jigs from Kreg for this. (I am not a employee of Kreg and received no compensation of any kind for this mention.) This jig has two powerful magnets on it which old the drawer slid unit in place. Jig is clamped to the face frame. The jig insures it's square and level in the case. After the slides are added to the case these other jigs are clamped to the face frame. The drawer box rests on the jig while the builder pulls the slide out and into position to be screwed to the box sides. When all the drawer slides and positioned and screwed in place the next step is to add the false drawer fronts. I took the drawer boxes to the shop and counter-bored a shallow 1/2" hole and drilled a 7/32" through hole for screws to attach the false drawer front. I position the drawer fronts with shims to get the space around the drawer even in the face frame. Shims in place. The I clamp the false drawer from to the drawer box. The go to the back of the cabinet and screw them in place. Here's a pic of the side and front together. I thought the birch pw matched the poplar pretty well. Although I'll never try to stain poplar again. I added the drarwer pulls and glass door panels yesterday and layed out and drilled for the water and drain pipes. One pic here is with a flash and the other without. I obviously need some practise with the camera :-) I have to toe kick, filler strip and shims to level the unit. Nearly done - phew. I'll get a couple of pics of it installed next week. Edited July 24, 2014 by oldhudson Quote
BeachBoy Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 Wow. I'm tired just looking. You are a better man than me. I'd have probably just hired somebody. Too much like work for this tired old body. But I admire anyone that can do it. I'm sure it will look great when finished. Good luck. Quote
