It's been quite awhile since I last logged on...I see I have a lot to catch up on too...*cleans reading glasses in anticipation*

Mr Yorkie has been battling with health issues...long story but after 2 years he is slowly making progress...Scrolling & Pyrography have had to take a back seat and we are just getting back to it now.

It did give us time to browse eBay though and we picked up what we think/hope is a bargain today, a Record DML24X lathe with extended bars made from Aircraft grade aluminium, taking it to almost 4 feet in overall length and a Windsor carba-tec mini lathe.

Mr Y did woodturning as a youngster on an old Multi tool Coronet Lathe...I have never tried it but really want to give it a try...so after keeping an eye on what was for sale we chanced upon this pair...belonged to an elderly gent who has had to give up due to arthritis in his hands...apparently he made pens with the carba-tec and converted the record one to a tool sharpener then bought himself an all singing all dancing axminster for pen making...then had to give it up...poor fella...the axminster lathe was a beauty but far too expensive for us...start small and see how we go methinks.

Anyway if the upload works here's some pics of our *bargains*...now we just need some woodcarving chisels...probably a book on the subject and a lot of YouTube Videos...and to figure out what other accessories we may need...oh and a lot of practice :)

Hope all is good with everyone

Lorn :)

Welcome back Lorn  looks like your going to be busy. take your mind of the past and look to the future and seeing some turning work. Roly

Hi Roly...hope all is good in your neck of the woods :)...yes now we know the light at the end of the tunnel is not an oncoming train...lol...got a lot to do before we can play with the new toy's though...got to find a home for them...they need a fair bit of room so some re planning is in order...then we have to get a decent set of chisels and other bit's & bobs to get started.

The chap we bought the Lathes from gave me a carrier bag full of pen making blanks, wood & acrylic as well as some of the metal fittings...we know nothing about making pens so that will be a steep learning curve in the distant future...but first a lot of practice making wooden *things* that may bear no resemblance to their intended end result...but that will be the fun bit :)

1st up will be a good book on woodturning and a lot of Youtube videos and we will see where we go from there.

Yorkie is toying with the idea of making a revolving workbench to mount the record lathe on so it can be swivelled underneath when not in use giving him a clear worktop for other things...been trying to find some ideas and design plans...as usual all in America...they have so much more to chose from that here in the UK the lucky devils :)

Take care & all the best

Lorn
