Kepy Posted September 6, 2014 Report Posted September 6, 2014 Well, I have been thoroughly indoctrinated into everything Scottish. Had a parade with bagpipes and the march of the clans. Didn't get to see the athletics but did see the cows and dogs. Missed out on the bangers and mash as they had sold out before I could get free. Saw more hairy legs than I would have preferred but was a good day. Quote
LarryEA Posted September 6, 2014 Report Posted September 6, 2014 I had to go to the Scottish source to find out what bangers and mash is. Sounds very tasty. Well, I've had sausage and mashed before. Thing is, there are many types of sausage. Wrong sausage, you can't make it right. And onion gravy.......................... I have no idea what I am talking about Glad you had a good time Kepy, you did have a good time didn't you? Quote
Scrappile Posted September 7, 2014 Report Posted September 7, 2014 (edited) Well now, I've been Scottish all my life and it hasn't hurt.... much.. Have to admit I don't know what Bangers and mash are. I've never even been to a Scottish parade. I do know what bag pipes are! Edited September 7, 2014 by Scrappile Quote

wombatie Posted September 7, 2014 Report Posted September 7, 2014 Did you try a Hairy Pie Kepy? And its not a cow its a Heilan Coo. Don't let Roy see you calling it a cow. Marg Quote
Rob Roy Posted September 7, 2014 Report Posted September 7, 2014 (edited) Good morning Bob. Delighted to hear you had a good Scottish day. Marg is correct, we call cows COOS, whether they are Heilan ones, Ayrshire ones, Aberdeen Angus ones, or any other type, they are all coos to us. . Bangers and mash is not strictly a Scottish dish, we adopted it from the English, I think, and it is now a British dish. Anyway it's a tasty dish no matter where it originated. A good Scottish dish is Mince and Tatties, which is traditionally, minced beef, or steak, (if you're a bit flush), cooked with onions and carrots. Then served up with mashed potatoes. Really very tasty and quite filling. As for the Bagpipes, well I can take them or leave them. You should have tried the Haggis Bob, it's quite nice, although it's a bit like the Bagpipes. You can take it or leave it . As for the Hairy pie No comment!!!!!!. Here endeth this short lesson on things Scottish. . No CABER TOSSING Bob???????. Rob Roy. Kepy Posted September 7, 2014 Author Report Posted September 7, 2014 It was a fun day. I missed the caber tossing as couldn't see it from where we were set up. Did see the Heilan coos and a Scottish Deer Hound. Rob Roy 1 Quote
Scrappile Posted September 7, 2014 Report Posted September 7, 2014 I think someone should make a pattern of a proud Scottsman in his full regalia playing bagpipes. Something like this: Quote
Docupton Posted September 8, 2014 Report Posted September 8, 2014 All this talk has made me peckish, but I like my Bangers with Bubble and Squeek, got any...? Quote
