browders Posted October 3, 2014 Report Posted October 3, 2014 During my time here, I have been blessed by the amount of help received from the amazing amount of expertise which exists on this forum. I know I'm past due to provide a breakfast, but living in the west I never seem to arise early enough to get it done. Instead, how bout a little lunch? Last week we have a spell of bad weather which kept me indoors. To pass the time (when not in the shop), we made up a bunch of bratwurst and brewed a batch of honey amber ale. So today (and/or tomorrow) lunch is on me. For those who choose not to partake of malted beverages, I also provide homemade root beer and of course coffee. Enjoy! LarryEA Posted October 3, 2014 Report Posted October 3, 2014 Jim, So very nice. I think it's time to change from Breakfast to Lunch meals. I'll have two bratwurst' on french bread, a cup of coffee. Homemade root beer sounds perfect. The honey amber ale has that perfect 'drink' look. Quote

LarryEA Posted October 4, 2014 Report Posted October 4, 2014 Root Beer taste...Nobody knows because nobody can tell you what sassafrass or birch or bananas tast like. Root Beer was originally an infusion of sassafras, ginger, sarsaparilla, lots of sugar and other herbal and rooty flavors but there's no actual 'root beer flavor' like there is apple flavor; each maker has their own recipe There's Birch beer made from the sap of Birch trees. So Root beer probably got its name from sassafras since it is a root. wombatie 1 Quote

browders Posted October 5, 2014 Author Report Posted October 5, 2014 Ginger beer is very biting to the tongue especial the jamacian version of it it the stores .It's surer content is upwards of 50% that's right up there with rock star energy drinks Interesting little factoid: During Prohibition, there was a drink smuggled into the country known as Jamaican Ginger, also known as "Jake". While Jake was not dangerous, the government required modification to make it bitter and less drinkable. To get around this, bootleggers started adding a chemical called tri-o-tolyl phosphate (TCOP) to fool the revenuers. This turned out to be a neurotoxin which caused damage to the central nervous system. The result was that people who consumed this developed a leg dragging gait due to loss of muscle control. This became known as Jake Leg Fever. Why did I feel it necessary to post this? Don't know. That's the problem with being retired and having too much time on my hands. Better head down to the shop.
