wdkits1 Posted January 7, 2015 Report Posted January 7, 2015 Hi EveryoneThis is a Custom Beer Tap Handle of the Hamilton Crest I just completed.Overall dimensions are 8 1/2" tall x 3.75" wide The Intarsia consists of 60 pieces from 9 different woods. The biggest challenge on this project (besides working with lots of little pieces) was bending the 2 ebony bands. I cut the ebony into 3/16" x 1/16" strips then using a woodburning iron heated the strips on the shaft of the iron and formed the circular shapes until they fit. Great trick if you need to make curved shapes. The dime shows the scale of the pieces.Challenging little project Scrolling Steve, vykus, neptun and 1 other 4 Quote

LarryEA Posted January 8, 2015 Report Posted January 8, 2015 I'm lost for the proper words to say how impressed I am. Other that to say,'I'm impressed.' Beautiful! Quote
amazingkevin Posted January 8, 2015 Report Posted January 8, 2015 Watchmaker tools might be in order for a project like this. The patience it takes for this is overwhelming! No room for mistakes.Where in the world you found room for 60 pieces is beyond me.Just how you work each piece to perfection is your trade secret, locking tweezers",Giant magnifiers, etc.I would bet you even invented a few things to make life easier on this project this intricate.Sensational work WD! Quote
browders Posted January 8, 2015 Report Posted January 8, 2015 Crazy good work! I'm still trying to get up the nerve to try my first intarsia project. Jim Quote
heppnerguy Posted January 8, 2015 Report Posted January 8, 2015 overwhelming skills are needed to produce what you do. I always look at your work with awe and bewilderment. You have got to be the most talented intarsia person on this planet and that is saying a lot because there are a few people in The Village that also do outstanding intarsia work. Not taking anything away from those people, as they too are very talented but I would be amazed if there is anyone else around that can begin to match you abilities. You are fabulous. wdkits1 Posted January 8, 2015 Author Report Posted January 8, 2015 Thanks everyone for the comments. To Kevin--I do use a pair of 2 power jewelers glasses for my cutting and shaping but other than that no special tools are needed.I have a few techniques that I use to insure proper fit but for the most part patience is the key to working with small pieces.
