DWSUDEKUM Posted March 19, 2015 Report Posted March 19, 2015 I was given 3/4 of a box of 14mm thick bamboo flooring a couple of months back and this is one of the projects from just 1/2 of one of the boards. I glued together 2 pieces of 3 1/2 inch wide x 7 inches long flooring and then cut this bowl from it. The bowl is 6 inches in diameter and about 2 1/4 high. Finished with Tung Oil. DWSUDEKUM Posted March 19, 2015 Author Report Posted March 19, 2015 That's really nice! I'm determined to try a bowl one day Bowls are pretty easy especially these basic ones. Just take your time laying it out, cutting sanding and finishing and you have something that folks will go you must have done that on a lathe. It is fun to watch their expressions when you tell them that no lathe was used to make the bowl, just your scroll saw, some sandpaper and elbow grease. There is a very good book out that was done by Carole Rothman - http://www.amazon.com/Wooden-Bowls-Scroll-Easy---Make/dp/1565234332/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1426793996&sr=8-1&keywords=wooden+bowls+from+the+scroll+saw Well worth owing. Lucky2 Posted March 20, 2015 Report Posted March 20, 2015 Nice little bowl DW, what was it like to cut bamboo flooring? I've cut some oak and birch flooring, the oak was a harder cut. Len Quote

Len Len bamboo can be tough on blades, the "hardness" varies a bit but if you think about it this is being used for flooring so its going to be pretty tough. If I had to guess for a comparison of another wood that would be marble wood. You can not rush working with bamboo. Sharp blades cut well, slightly dull blades burn it much like cherry.
