Zorro1958 Posted March 31, 2015 Report Posted March 31, 2015 Hello... Everyone here is so nice and helpful, I pre-thank you for your efforts. Once again, I am hoping to get a nice pattern from either of these pictures for a co-worker. Her daughter is named Leah, and just turned 16. For sizing, I will be using an 8X10 board in either portrait or landscape (as in the pictures). I have larger pictures if needed, but I went ahead and cut them down to post. If there is any reason these won't make a good pattern, please let me know. Thank you again. Bert Quote

Zorro1958 Posted May 17, 2015 Author Report Posted May 17, 2015 Wow, this is the 1st toss-away one I have done (tears here - LOL)... I think I will hang it up in my workshop as a reminder of the various mistakes I made. 1st, the wood I used was ordered online, and it had dark areas (as you can see, especially stood out as bad across the upper lip area). I tried to stain it (no pic - but believe me... it made it stand out worse). 2nd, the detail in the face was smaller because I tried to include too much body area. I guess that went beyond my skill level, if you look closely, a chunk of the eye ended up falling out - which was the deal breaker for me... I'm not 100% sure the cut of the wood wasn't part to blame, because, it seemed to be okay when I did it - but it fell out later when I was cutting the last few cuts... sigh.... That was sad....... Lastly - I showed it to the co-worker.... which was an error because she really liked it. I had already cut another (different) one, and couldn't bring myself to have the bad one be shown around. So... - I am humbled from (and hopefully learned a lot) on this little project. I am determined to do better on the next one. On the bright side. She REALLY liked the second one (pic attached)....... and, her daughter absolutely loves it.... All-in-all..... Great experience. Good times! Thanks to all for your help and encouragement. Quote
