sullyscroller Posted April 12, 2015 Report Posted April 12, 2015 Ok now go to your file you saved step 1 in and open with Gimp. YOU DID SAVE RIGHT !!!! on the left toolbar you click the bucket fill and set it for white, if you enlarge the image it makes it a little easier - go to veiw tab up top and pick a zoom level. Now left click the area that you colored whatever color you chose in inkscape - it should turn white. do all the different areas around the Birds of Paradise font. that done your ready to make bridges, start where you know they are needed use the pencil tool on the left toolbar set on white again and left click where you need to remove the small area of black to make the "bridge", the next step we will see if we got all the islands. When you think your ready use the bucket tool set for black and left click on a large white area off the main pattern. the screen should go black completely except for islands you missed which will be white. If you missed one use the yellow arrow on the right toolbar to go back reset to your pencil tool set for white and fix those you missed before, do this as often as you need till you get them all. lastly using the pencil on white again remove any small areas of black that are just to small to cut. Now SAVE SAVE SAVE LOL You now have a cut able pattern. The last step i do but is not necessary is to open it again in Inkscape and do a bitmap trace just to clean up the edges. I hope this helped someone who might one day turn out to be our next great pattern maker. BTW - Travis if you want to add this to the Articles section it's ok by me if it will help someone. Thank you Travis once again for your tutorial. Quote
