Sorry about the long absence.  For my wife's 65th birthday and my 70th our kids rented a cabin for us in a resort near Fifty Lakes, MN. We had a great time except for the mosquitoes, they weren't big but they made up in numbers what they lacked in size.  Here I am with one of the many fish we caught.post-18045-0-12589400-1434978237_thumb.jpg

After completing the  glue-up of the sides, handles and corner pieces I routed a 1/4" x 3/8" rabbit on the bottom edge going around the inside perimeter of the tray. Here's a pic of the tray up-side-down so you can see the rabbit.

The bottom is 1/4" cherry, mdf core, pw. Here's the process I used. I "sandwiched" and held together with double sided tape: a) the cherry pw; b) 1/4 hardboard for a template; c) the glued up tray. See pic

I then routed the perimeter with a flush trim bit, guiding against the sides of the tray, cutting both the template and the bottom. (The tray is removed in this pic for clarity)

I removed the tray from the "sandwich" and switched to a rabbiting bit, guiding against the template edge and cut the bottom so it fit. These pics shows the bottom and template, still taped together, where you can see the cut on the bottom and the bit used.

Here's a view with the newly cut bottom in place. You can see what a nice fit you get. I could have marked the stock and cut it with the scroll saw or a jig saw but routers work so well with templates and give such a nice clean edge.
