oldhudson Posted June 24, 2015 Report Posted June 24, 2015 (edited) Yesterday I masked off the areas that will be glued in the final assembly. (I prefer putting finish on as much as possible before assembly, I think it's easier to finish.) Then, I wiped on a coat of BLO (boiled linseed oil). It made quite a difference on this project. I like the way it highlights the grain without adding color. You can see in the second picture the difference in color (I'm making two of this project.) This will have to sit for about a week for the solvent to completely 'flash off' before I attempt a top coat. Here's a spline joint detail pic. One other thing....this project is a wedding gift and I tried to personalize it with scrolling but wasn't happy with my effort so..... I choose to have it laser engraved. Sorry - what can I say?
