New Guy Posted July 27, 2015 Report Posted July 27, 2015 Anyone know what kind of hawk ? The bird is camera shy. Best shot I could get. Location my yard. Quote
Scrolling Steve Posted July 27, 2015 Report Posted July 27, 2015 Not sure what it is.....Here in N.C. we have a sparrow hawk or coopers hawk that is a lot like that one.....feeds on mice and other birds! Quote
LarB Posted July 27, 2015 Report Posted July 27, 2015 Howdy! His colours are fascinating, so I had to go in search of!! Narrowing it down to these three possibilities: Gyrfalcon Merlin Peregrine Falcon (Juvenile?) Check this link out : http://identify.whatbird.com/mwg/110/01K020wf0wo-OR01t0102h-OR00k01029-OR01C0104Y-OR021010UC-OR/1/10/attrs.aspx#history It gives you options to break the bird down by colours, shape, calls etc. Hope this helps ... let us know what you deduce it to be!! Dan Posted July 28, 2015 Report Posted July 28, 2015 With the beak color and the feather pattern it looks like a gyrfalcon to me. Very pretty bird. It would make a beautiful intarsia pattern. LarB 1 Quote
