rjR Posted September 17, 2015 Report Posted September 17, 2015 As I have very recently purchased a very small H-F lathe; I am trying to teach myself a little about using it. A piece e of firewood was sacrificed to become the bottle stopper in the attached pictures. It has no finish and the wood burning was actually done with a piece of other wood! I think it is maple; not sure. Sure smoothed up nice! Yes it does work. No, that is not my favorite beer! Lucky2 and Scrolling Steve 2 Quote

Falcon Posted September 17, 2015 Report Posted September 17, 2015 Funny was looking at small HF lathe yesterday. Which one did you get? Good first turn. I like new toys but mama has my wallet most of the time. Quote
Scrolling Steve Posted September 17, 2015 Report Posted September 17, 2015 That turned out nice for a first attempt ! ( no pun intended ).....Keep us posted on your progress and how the lathe performs. Quote
bobscroll Posted September 17, 2015 Report Posted September 17, 2015 Hi Ralph, It looks good! And practical too, You'll be turning out turned chair legs in no time! Thank you for showing, Bob Quote
rjR Posted September 17, 2015 Author Report Posted September 17, 2015 I bought the one with the variable speed! The points lined up perfectly right out of the box. The variable speed DEWMANDS(by instructions; Yes, sometimes I read them) to always start lathe at the lowest speed and then turn up. There is a very slight delay between --on and actually starting, but, my Grizzly scrollsaw does the same! Pictures are of lathe, messy shop and the small kit I bought to keep lathe accessories in. Hope this answers questions. I will be making "name train" parts-- main reason- for getting it. Probably will not do table legs The bed length is small-- I will be mounting it to a platform that pegs on to a stand I am in process on. It was also purchased- light enough and small enough to go RV'N with us. I like the bottle stoppers for taking a beverage outside and preventing "visitors" in the beverage! Lucky2 1 Quote
WigWag Workshop Posted September 19, 2015 Report Posted September 19, 2015 Nice! I have my eye on a JET1221vs lathe, it's been something I wanted to do for a long time now. Quote
