oldhudson Posted October 26, 2015 Report Posted October 26, 2015 I was sanding plugs (there are 3 in the one pic and 1 in the pic w/o a flash) I made to cover screws and got carried away - blowing through the veneer. I'm looking for ways to repair. Any help would be appreciated. The size is 1.25 x .5. Thanks for reading. Quote
Phantom Scroller Posted October 26, 2015 Report Posted October 26, 2015 (edited) Berry it really depends on what your going to use it for, you could turn it into a positive by cutting a darker piece underneath into an animal or bird an inlay and glue it in they will think you did it on purpose. Roly This is part of an entertainment unit, a commission no less. I was just finishing this up yesterday when I got carried away. I was working vertically - I should have laid the cabinet on it's side. I was using 220 grit so it was a fairly fine sanding disk.... Quote

Oops don't know how without replacing it and using the damaged part for something else. oldhudson 1 Quote
rjR Posted October 26, 2015 Report Posted October 26, 2015 (edited) You can try on a piece of scrap to use permanent marker and make it look like a natural knot! I have used that trick on plain wood with goofs; not on veneer though! Edited October 26, 2015 by rjR Quote
tomsteve Posted October 28, 2015 Report Posted October 28, 2015 any chance you could either add a scrolled decorative piece to cover it or even make raised plug look? Quote
LarryEA Posted October 28, 2015 Report Posted October 28, 2015 Maybe more sanding to fade or blend it in ... This is a desperate suggestion fix. Quote
oldhudson Posted October 28, 2015 Author Report Posted October 28, 2015 So I don't have to fix it after all. See the other portion of the story here http://www.scrollsawvillage.com/topic/16538-what-to-tell-the-customer/ Although, now that the unit is finally done (phew) I may try a patch fix just for practice. Will post here with results. Thanks. Quote
