jerry1939 Posted November 7, 2015 Report Posted November 7, 2015 As you are well aware of there are GREAT written instructions & videos out there. I was finding the people assumed you already had experience working with Inkscape. I didn't. The instructions are geared toward the kindergarten level. DO NOT LET THE LENGHT OF THE INSTRUCTIONS SCARE YOU AWAY!! 80% of it you will have memorized by your 3rd pattern. Words in blue are suggested values that I used. YOU ARE YOUR OWN BOSS!! For the already experienced nice people, you will see a few radical moves. Here's why. After Dynamic Offset, I was getting frustrated at times. Occasionally when I moved the bottom word onto the middle word, they wouldn't weld. Other times, when welded, they went BEHIND the top word. "Difference" removed the large word. Through trial & error, I found that Copy-Paste was foolproof. The intent is that this will open doors for people to try something that they never tackled, or failed at. Download Inkscape here (Free) https://inkscape.org/en/download/ Note that it opens slowly after you have installed it. jerry Inscape Intersecting Word Art 101.doc oldhudson, OCtoolguy and sweetsaw 2 1 Quote

Greenie Posted January 20, 2018 Report Posted January 20, 2018 Jerry, I have been really having a hard time with trying to follow Travis' tutorial on intersecting words. I think your instructions will be a big help. Thank you so much for providing this info. To show how frustrated I was I have read just about everything about this subject. Thanks again Eddie OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Greenie Posted January 23, 2018 Report Posted January 23, 2018 Ok Jerry, as I was using your cheat sheet and feeling good I do the copy and paste with the small words then try to select the red word nothing happens. What tool are you using to select it? Everything was looking good too, I was really excited til I got to that point. I would appreciate any pointers you may have Thanks Eddie OCtoolguy 1 Quote
jerry1939 Posted January 23, 2018 Author Report Posted January 23, 2018 I want to be sure that I understand you. Do you have all 3 (colors)(words) positioned where you want them? If so, enlarge the heck out of the screen with the PLUS (+) key on you computer. Use the SELECTOR tool on the very top left of the Tool menu. Put your cursor on the color that you want to remove. You have succeeded when that color shows on the bottom left. Hit Delete on your keyboard. Hope this helps Friend. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Greenie Posted January 24, 2018 Report Posted January 24, 2018 Jerry, That really helped alot Thanks so much. Thanks to all that are so willing to help. Eddie OCtoolguy 1 Quote

savethebeer Posted May 10, 2018 Report Posted May 10, 2018 Hello Jerry. I had decided to look for a good program to make word art so I was reading through the various entries here before posting the question 'which program does everyone prefer' when I came across your entry so I am downloading right now. No doubt we'll be talking soon to find out why such and such did not work properly. Your first entry here was years ago so I think your download link is out of date. (I googled inkscape Download and it started automatically so all is well) Bob OCtoolguy 1 Quote
OCtoolguy Posted May 22, 2018 Report Posted May 22, 2018 Thanks Jerry, this comes at a very opportune time. I'm trying to learn Inkscape so I can make alterations to a pattern I have of a basket. There are two lines around both layers of the basket that are about 3/16" apart. I need to make them a bit farther apart without moving the outer one. I want to make the walls about 1/4" thickness to give them a bit more strength. Others here have already tried to do it for me but I truly want to learn how to do it myself. I'll read through your .doc file and see if any of it pertains to what I'm trying to do. Thanks again. Ray Quote
