wdkits1 Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 I teach woodworking classes at the local senior citizens center. It's a lot of fun and gives me a chance to get out of the shop and to meet some of the great folks that live in the area. It seems that Capital One has very graciously donated 20 brand new laptop computers and has set up the new computer lab for the members of the center. I was asked to design and build the plaque stand which will be used to honor Capital One and their commitment to the community. It is a very simple stand made from walnut with a little band of holly as an accent. Fun little project. Quote
Travis Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 That turned out great. Did you turn the post? Looks like a great way to display a sign. Nicely done! Quote
wdkits1 Posted December 16, 2009 Author Report Posted December 16, 2009 Thanks Travis I made the post on the bandsaw. I made a jig that holds the stock on the centers and run it past the blade and rotate until it is perfectly round. Much faster than turning on the lathe and alot less dust. Once it is roughed out I put it on the lathe to do the finish sanding and do the top and bottom tenons. The base for the legs was done on the lathe after I cut the dovetails which receive the legs.
