Iguanadon Posted July 28, 2016 Report Posted July 28, 2016 It's not a done deal yet, but it's close... buying a new house just 3 blocks from current one. Three reasons we're moving... My wife needs a space for a home office, the dogs need more yard space (our real dogs, not the ones I cut out of poplar) and Iggy needs a real workshop area. I've been working in a garden shed and have less than half of it designated for workshop space. The new house has a 2 1/2 car garage with so much space I almost cried a little when I saw it. ;-) Pictures of my current setup and a picture of the new space (with the current owners stuff still in it). If all goes as scheduled, will be moving in the last week of August. Counting down the days. Old Joe, lawson56, WigWag Workshop and 1 other 4 Quote
tonylumps Posted July 28, 2016 Report Posted July 28, 2016 Your are going to need a lot more Toys. I mean tools.I know you already made out your Santa List.. Quote
meflick Posted July 28, 2016 Report Posted July 28, 2016 Congratulations. Its always exciting to get more room for your "needs". Sounds like a win-win for everyone involved. Wife, you, and the dogs. We built the house we are in now and moved in 11 years ago this month. The "joke" in the family is that we built it for my husband's wood working shop and my "work room". Thought we had lots of space in those two rooms too - but now 11 years later - not so much it seems. The house before this one had a two car garage plus some space with one door. When he filled up his garage space and had to park outside - that was fine - when he started horning in on my garage space I said - timeout! I don't park outside in the winter months! (and our winters are not that bad!) No, I am horning in on his wood working space with my scrollsawing. So far he's sharing. heppnerguy 1 Quote

Denny Knappen Posted July 28, 2016 Report Posted July 28, 2016 Way to go on more shop space. Half of our two car garage is my shop. Quote
heppnerguy Posted July 28, 2016 Report Posted July 28, 2016 Nice move. And it looks like you will have some pretty good lighting too. Can't beat that with a stick Dick heppnerguy Quote
NC Scroller Posted July 28, 2016 Report Posted July 28, 2016 The more space you have the more you need.....Congrats Quote
Iguanadon Posted July 28, 2016 Author Report Posted July 28, 2016 I'm rather excited about it and wish the next 30 days would fly by... other than having to pack and move... Ugh. Days like today when it's 94 degrees with a heat index of 111 and it's 96 in my garden shed and I can't get near it until after the sun goes down makes me want to be in the new garage workshop NOW! The wishlist is already beginning... Definitely need a table saw. Quote
UH1PLT Posted July 29, 2016 Report Posted July 29, 2016 I'm proud for you Iguanadon! It will be a great move but all available space will eventually (and quicker than you think!) get filled up. Quote
Lucky2 Posted July 29, 2016 Report Posted July 29, 2016 Iggy, you'll get lost with all of that space. A bandsaw would probably suit you better, a tablesaw would be overkill if its main use is for scrolling purposes. Len Quote

Jim Finn Posted July 29, 2016 Report Posted July 29, 2016 I moved four years ago, just four miles for similar reasons as you. I had to move a whole woodworking shop. Table saw, three scroll saws, planer, jointer, sander, band saw, drill press, and many hand held power tools. I moved all this myself by renting a PODS and filling it and having it moved to the new house. I built some 3" ramps to roll the equipment in and out of the PODS. No lifting up onto a truck. Works well for me. Now, to be honest I was younger then. I was only seventy. Quote
