pattern help please

I can't seem to get the "gaps" on the biohazard symbol to look right.  When I make them wider, it comes out looking like a Klingon boomerang instead.  Also with the "N"'s in personnel, would it look better if I got rid of the first gap?  Right now that part looks like an "M" on steroids.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks

I think your symbols look fine but I would get rid of the unnecessary bridges in the lettering something like the attached (only cleaner)

Thanks for the help, Don.  I didn't think about the bridges in the other letters.  I used the WWI stencil font thinking it would look more "military."
