rjR Posted November 9, 2016 Report Posted November 9, 2016 (edited) My youngest granddaughter is having a birthday party with a "Harry Potter" theme. I was asked to make the sign boards for the yard etc. Pictures show results. Just fence cedar; sanded and then the lettering is wood-burned in and a few other additions added. Then the friendly propane torch decided not to get left out, so it went to work too. There is not particular font used; what the wood wanted, I gave it. I used 3 different tips on the burners. The small pointed did a lot of the outlines and the dragon texture. The wedge point did the most while the tiny duck-foot, was used some too. The biggest rick is to keep the tips clean. I use a piece of used sandpaper (stapled to a piece of scrap wood, to be flat) and clean the tips often. They were given a very fast coat of spray poly to keep the burn from spreading itself on anyone who handled them. They are about 3-1/2 by 10 to 12 inches long. They will be mounted to posts and put in the front yard before the party. I only had one very minor burn-- good for the amount of time it actually took.
