G'day everyone.  I don't know about you and I know they were my idea   but we are learning so much about each other and our countries.  Anyway we had a beautiful day here, a very sunny 18C.  It is 4. 28pm here now and I know you have different time zones but actually how many are there?  I thought that there were just a couple but I think I may be wrong.  Over here all of the east coast have the same time zones but south Australia is about 1/2 an hour behind us and West Australia is 5 hours behind us.  Hope you all have a good day.

Hi, Marg,

There are 24 STANDARD time zones in the world. Here's a link with the definition of standard and

a description of some of the zones.

http://www.timeanddate.com/time/current-number-time-zones.html

With the daylight savings time that some areas use, it seems to be dark by about 5:30 p..m. in some places.

I guess that's how they are saving the daylight, right? Not using it during the day? JUST KIDDING!
God Bless! Spirithorse

Guid mornin Marg and all. Very frosty here this morning and ice on the river, in the west of Scotland. However the temperature has now climbed up to 3 degrees so it looks like I'll have to remove a jacket, or maybe two.LOL. The street lights come on about 4-30 pm. Daylight Saving ?????????. Well you know what us Scots are like for saving ;)  ;)  . Have a good and safe day.

Good morning Marg, and everyone. It's 43F here in southwest Ohio, USA. We are expecting a high of 56F today but with full sunshine, it should be perfect. No work today so I'm going to visit my brother and after lunch we will go to visit my aunt's burial site. She was my dad's sister and a Sister of Charity. I have a few errands to run then I'll be back to the scroll saw. I promise to have some photos to post in a few days.  :)

Hi Marg and thanks, I ageee I love learning from and about each other and our areas of the world. That is one of the things I love about a forum like this, we get to interact with people from around the world.

In the continental United States, we have 4 time zones. The Eastern part of the Country is in the "Eastern" time zone. We then progress to the "Central" time zone, then the "Mountain" time zone and finally the "Pacific" time zone. This is a link that gives some more detail on the time zones we have and "daylight savings time" - how it works, who uses and doesn't and more. To know we "fall back" in the Fall and "spring forward" in the Spring. We just ended DST and went back to standard time last weekend. My husband hates going back because he says it's dark when he goes to work and dark when he comes home. Part of it is that we are on the back end of the Eastern time zone. The date line/time line is only about 30 minutes from us as you head from Knoxville TN west towards Nashville. We spent 10 years in Nashville and he really hated the winter time there as it related to the hours of light versus dark.

Fires still burning in our area and causing air alerts. Desperately need some rain but they say another week at least. It's. ow 5:30 pm in the evening here and will be dark by 6 pm.

I didn't yet get to the saw but might later as hubby is at a conference. I went to to lumber wood stores today in area and got some wood for some Intarsia projects. I better get to it if I hope to make Christmas gifts this year.

South Australia is about 1/2 an hour behind

Marg, I had to look this up:

Lord Howe Island is on its own island

And then there's the anomaly of Lord Howe Island in Australia , which curiously puts its clocks back by just half an hour in the local Winter to GMT +10:30, only to skip ahead to GMT +11:00 in the Summer. Good luck figuring out how that works.Awkwardly, the island is half an hour ahead of Australian Eastern Standard Time. Though the atoll's time zone was officially standardized by the Standard Time Act 1987, and before that, by an earlier version of the same act in 1971, Lord Howe Island has been anecdotally adhering to its odd time-keeping since way back in 1904 (without concrete evidence, however).
