Need help with lightening up a pattern

Hi all

I got this pattern and scanned it and it is so dark, I can't see the cutouts in the tree branches.  I am using paint.net, how do I lighten the pattern up so I can see more details. I scanned it as black and white. I am not very good at this sort of thing, but I have relatives with cabins and thought it would make a cute gift for a table. Can who ever does this fix email it to me please at wmk924@gmail.com.

Picasa download should be able to help you out it is a free download You may want to try it.

This might help.  Around 1:40 will show you how to lighten an image.

Bill, Paint doesn't have an adjustment for darkness. You can either try another image program or go back and rescan with gray scale instead of black/white setting.
