stevebuk Posted March 31, 2010 Report Posted March 31, 2010 hi travis i have been watching your Inkscape tutorials again, and noticed how you keep mentioning different shortcut keys, is there a list anywhere on this site telling the user what these are instead of relying on memory, mines not so good anymore, and is it printable. thank you Quote
Travis Posted March 31, 2010 Report Posted March 31, 2010 I don't have a list. There is too many to remember. The Inkscape website has a huge list available if you're interested: http://www.inkscape.org/doc/keys046.html Usually what I do, if I'm repeating the same function over and over, I'll learn the keyboard shortcut. To find the shortcut, find the function in the menu. To the right of the function, you'll see the shortcut listed. Here's a few shortcuts you'll always use. They're pretty much standard on any program out there. Ctrl+C is copy to your clipboard. Ctrl+V is paste from your clipboard. Ctrl+Z is undo. Here are some Inkscape specific ones I use. Ctrl+D is duplicate. Ctrl+G is group Ctrl+K is Combine Ctrl+Shift+K is break apart Ctrl++ is Union Page Down is move layer down Page Up is move layer up Ctrl+Mouse Wheel roll is zoom in or out Mouse Wheel Click is to pan Ctrl+- is Difference I hope this helps. stevebuk Posted April 1, 2010 Author Report Posted April 1, 2010 many thanks Travis, i will start jotting them down. One other question if i may, i noticed Inkscape is excellent for making patterns, what about if you have a pattern started that needs finishing, i started making a pattern using pieces printed out from other patterns, i cut them out and stuck them onto paper and scanned it in to make a pattern, its not perfect but, if it is possible i would like to tweak it in inkscape, i will put the pattern into the vault here, and could you see if it is possible. Travis Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 It gets a little complicated when doing that. Its also tricky to explain. Basically, you'd have to turn each element into an object, then move them around. So if its a standard black/white pattern, you'd use the Path>Trace Bitmap. That will give you the traced pattern. Then you'd take the traced pattern and break it apart: Path>Break Apart. Then select each group/elements, then combine those elements: Path>Combine. Then you should be able to move the elements around. Another way is to simply bring in the scan and use Inkscape to trace the elements. Then you can move them around wherever you want If you are making a pattern by combining other people's patterns, I wouldn't upload it to the Pattern Library. Only upload patterns that are totally original to you. That way we can avoid any copyright problems. Quote
stevebuk Posted April 3, 2010 Author Report Posted April 3, 2010 Once again Travis, thank you. My wording was incorrect regarding the pattern, the pattern i made was taken from free pictures in the public domain and Your love heart, so no copyright issues anywhere. Quote
