JTTHECLOCKMAN Posted August 12, 2017 Author Report Posted August 12, 2017 I worked in construction also but as an electrician and it never got boring. Always had to be on my toes. Safety first. I carry this into my shop every time I am in there because one slip and it could really be disastorous. I do get bored making the same things but I make close to 700 different projects over the years. I make multiples of the popular ones that are selling at the time. When they run their course I move on. Do not do as many selling events any more so less stress and enough to keep me happy. Quote
Oldmansbike Posted August 12, 2017 Report Posted August 12, 2017 I tried the selling things at craft shows when I first started scrolling. I found that people around here didn't want to pay what it was worth. They thought my pieces were great but didn't want to pay the reasonable price I was asking so I gave up on the craft shows and just made stuff for family and friends. When I first started making my signs I made mostly Harley Davidson signs. I was selling them for a while but once the Harley crowd got theirs they stopped selling plus Harley got wind of it some how and told me to stop selling because of their trade mark. I asked them about being licensed by them and they told me I would have to make several thousand of each one before they would consider it. I told them there wasn't any way I could make that many so I stopped selling them. Quote
tonylumps Posted August 12, 2017 Report Posted August 12, 2017 (edited) I found that Scroll work for me is hit or miss.I sell a lot of seasonal cuts around Christmas. My crosses do fair to good all year. But Pens are what really do good for me. I do 75% of my selling by word of mouth.I am back and forth on the Lathe and Scroll saw all day.People in my area want something functional and personal. And I try not to make the same Pen twice. Except for the Pens I give away or donate. So I definatly do not get bored. While I am cutting on the saw I am thinking about my next pen. When I am turning a Pen I am thinking about my next scroll work. Edited August 12, 2017 by tonylumps Quote
