amazingkevin Posted July 14, 2010 Report Posted July 14, 2010 Man that took some time to do , what kind of wood was it. I under stand that people soak wood in some solution and it softens it right up so carveing is a cinch.I forgot all about that till i seen this moon face and thought it my help things go alot easyer for you. If you find out what kind of pickleing solution it is let me know.also have you carved any coconut husks.i tryed but i think you need to do it when they are still green. Maybe exacto blades is what is used, don't know I tryed a dremil on dryed out ones but could'nt get any detail. You have alot more knowlege so let me drain your brain a little . very nice job on the moon.Well never mind all that . What i really want to know is hows that fresh corn tastein. My cousin puts mayonase and salt and pepper on hers with butter . is it ever yummy. i perfer to eat the corn raw as the flavor is much more tasty. And if it's soft enough i'll eat the cob too plus all that golden hair inside thats loaded with silicone. cjswoodcrafts Posted July 14, 2010 Author Report Posted July 14, 2010 WELL kevin, found out today its shipped 2nd day air ups.. so itll be here tomorrow, i did track it so its here in georgia, just south of atlanta... 3 dozen ears of corn, woman paid 97 bucks to ship it. I don't soak the wood when i carve, mainly cause i use soft wood like pine, unless customer specifys this is what they get. gotta google that bout soaking hard wood... and for the most part i use a dremel like thing, but mine is a black and decker rotary tool, i use between 3-6 different carving extensions to be tighten in the rotary. it does well, but this last one im doing is about 3 inches thick, 5 inches wide and 7 inches tall.. (approx) so ill use the rotary tool as much as i can, then ill prolly use a router for soome, then its hammer and chisel time. but i gotta put that one on hold til i get done with an order that i held a drawing for, she wants this cowboy wood burn i had just in a smaller scale.. and relief carved.. will post soon Thanks Quote
amazingkevin Posted July 15, 2010 Report Posted July 15, 2010 Looks great so far .Your good with the hair. I'll bet when you do beards they come out real nice to.How many carveings do you have under your belt.I had an order for 26 -4' x 10" round dead coco nut tree trunks and nobody would let me buy their dead tree so i could make them,(tiki's).$200. a piece and when you get rollin you can knock out 2 a day.I turned them into tiki's and burned them .Sold every one i had and one got stolen .do you sharpen your own tools?they even asked me what they ment ,like god of love, good luck tiki's etc.i wanted to lie but could not, lolI even carved out a large hole on top to put a plant so it looked like hair.
