Vector01 Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 Nothing more aggravating than losing a file. Especially a pattern you've been working on for a while. This could be from a software glitch, system issues or accidental deletion (done that more than once). I was burning my files to a CD. Problem is you start to collect a bunch of CD's. Over the last few months I've been using USB flash drives. I bought a 8GB drive for around $20.00 dollars and it works great. Takes up very little space and stores a bunch of files. Once a week I back up my Inkscape and Gimp files as well as any other important graphics to the flash drive. You can always reload the software, but once those other files are gone, they're gone. greasemonkeyredneck Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 I agree about the aggrevation of losing files. My problem is that I'm not the only one that uses my laptop. My wife and daughter both sometimes get on it too if I have to go do something else and it happens to be out. Also, I was running out of space on my computer. About a year ago, I bought an external hard drive for my computer. It is 1TB. I'm sorry I forgot exactly what the TB stand for besides, A LOT. All my photos, music, and woodworking files go on it and it's not out or plugged up unless I'm sitting at the computer. Now I don't have to worry about anything being moved or deleted by anyone else. I'm also going to consider something else too, maybe your flash drive idea. I also back up everything from time to time, in addition to my external hard drive (sort of a backup to my backup). I know what you mean about those disks can add up quick. Quote
Vector01 Posted August 10, 2010 Author Report Posted August 10, 2010 I was looking at external TB (terabyte) drives. Great idea...There's enough storage on them to last a while. I'm not quite sure what a terabyte is either. I think it's 10X100GB? If I can't count it on my fingers and toes it's too much for me Quote
