When I buy a new tool or something for my PC I always hope if there's a problem it happens within the first 30-90 days. It's easier to call the place you bought it from and send it back for credit or replacement. Trying to deal with the manufacturers after the return policy ends can be a hassle.

Last week my wireless mouse wouldn't work properly. I found my original receipt (2008). I had bought a Logitech S-510 wireless desktop set (keyboard and mouse) from NewEgg. Checking Logitech's warranty policy I found it was still covered. I dreaded calling and being put on hold then trying to deal with a outsourced customer service rep.

Made the call to Logitech on the 4th and was connected to a live person within a few minutes. I explained my problem and was asked to hold for a couple of minutes. The rep came back on within a minute and stated that her supervisor OK'd a replacement for the mouse. She stated that it would be a newer version since they no longer made those models. I would receive it within 5-10 days. Great!!!

Today I got a delivery from UPS...A large box? Hmmm...I was waiting for the mouse. Couldn't imagine what it was. Checking the labels on the box, it was from Logitech. Logitech had sent me a complete new desktop set (keyboard and mouse). I will definitely continue to purchase their products in the future. That's what I consider excellent customer service.

I have a good Warranty story for ya.

I've been getting this call every evening from an 800 number. I never answer those calls because its almost someone trying to sell something to me. But I was getting annoyed with the constant calling, so I picked it up to tell them I wasn't interested. It was Sears on the other end. Apparently I bought an extended 2 yr warranty on my drill press and it was coming to the end of the warranty. I bought a warranty? I never buy those. I think its a huge waste of money. But I must have been feeling pretty good the day I bought the drill press and bought the warranty with it. Anyway, I questioned the lady about it because it's not like me to buy a warranty. She confirmed that it was true and asked "Why? Are you having trouble with it?" "As a matter of fact I am!." The baring on the center pulley broke and my belts don't line up anymore, which ruins very expensive belts. I didn't have the money to fix something like that. So I've been without a drillpress for the better part of the summer. So the lady said that my warranty covers in-home repair which means they come to me and I don't have to lug a huge drill press to the repair shop! Sweet! She gave me the phone number to call and schedule. So I did and they were going to come out last Friday.

I was ready for the guy to call on Friday so I could run home and show him what the problem was. The guy called and I explained what it was. I knew that the center pulley just needs to be replaced. He said that that's not a part he carries and would have to order it, but could drop by and check it out. I told him not to worry because is simply needs to be replaced. He said cool, we'll ship it to your house. Then he asked me to call him when it comes in and he'll install it. I told him not to worry about it. Its about as easy of a fix you can do.

Last night, the part came to my house. I got two center pulleys and two replacement baring. I don't know if they accidentally doubled my order or not. But I should be set for my lifetime and my son's lifetime! I installed the new part about 20 minutes ago, and now I have a drillpress again. And there was great rejoicing!

Would I buy an extended warranty again? Heck no. I still think it's a waste of money. But it seemed to work out pretty well this time.

I generally agree with Travis on the extended warrany subject. However, I do purchase this coverage on certain items. One example is these new flat screen television sets. They are relatively new on the market and therefore could potentially be prone to issues. Experience being the best teacher, when I purchased a CD player. I had it for about a year and the lazer crocked. It was an expensive ordeal to have it replaced. However, with the warrany extention, the company sent me a brand new and improved CD player, which is now almost 10 years old and still functions!!! So, there are times when I think it is a good idea to consider the coverage. :)
