Yesterday one of my neighbors told me about a car show up the road in Landrum on the SC/NC border. I had finished my house chores and decided to take the 20 min. ride to Landrum.

I was impressed. Landrum is a small town with a lot of antique stores and there is a lot of equestrian businesses. They had blocked off one of the main streets and it was packed with all sorts of newer and classic cars angled parked and lots of people checking them out. It was a good show with lots of food vendors but I noticed that were not any memorabilia (hat, T-shirt, car stuff) vendors.

I'm thinking not many people are walking around with big $$$$ to buy cars at the show but there a lot of people with $10's or $20's to spend on novelties or mementos.

Have any of the Scrollers ever worked a car show and if so, was it successful?

I used to sell at a local antique tractor show.. that is typically a pretty good turn out.. That said.. My experience.. and growing up with six older brothers that was into classic cars and tractors.. The car / tractor guys aren't spending tool and tractor parts money on scrolled decorations and home decor stuff... as you may have seen me making a lot of car clocks and ornaments etc.. but guys are not the ones buying.. it's the women getting gifts for their dads, husbands, and boyfriends.. so.. that said.. yeah I would sell a very small amount to the wives of fellas at the tractor events.. but.. not really enough to make it worth while.. Many guys would stop and look.. but many wasn't spending any money..

I myself am the same way.. I personally like to look.. I like to get ideas and make things myself.. and many times will spend more money making my own than just buying the item I liked from the vendor..

My family told me that I should do car shows, as I like to make them, have around 25 done. So my brother in law was sponsoring one last year, which I was hesitant on do one, but I said I would give it a try. Lot of people attended the  show, and I did not sell one car portrait, so I will not do one again, was a waste of time.   edward
