oldhudson Posted June 5, 2018 Report Posted June 5, 2018 We purchased a smaller sound bar for our TV. It will be sitting a newer piece of furniture and I wanted the stand to match it if I could make that happen. Basically this is a pw shelf that has hard wood legs and trim pieces masking the pw edge. The legs are attached with pocket screws. Very simple build. It was trying to match the colors that I thought was a challenge. The hardwood edge and leg stock was from a chest that was left when we purchased the house. I don't know what kind of stock it is. It's not very dense. Pic 1 - the stock after some sanding Pic 2 - a coat of garnet shellac Pic 3 - I added a coat of mahogany stain, a Williams O'Brian product I've had for years Pic 4 - I wiped on some General Finishes Java (a gel stain), especially near the edges, with the same rag I used for the mahogany Pic 5 - with a topcoat, 3 coats of General Finishes water based poly (light sanding between coats) Pic 6 - laying on the cabinet I'm trying to match Pic 7 - the completed stand, in the shop I tried buffing with '0000" steel wool and adding some wax but it didn't change the appearance much, although it 'felt' better. The pw already had finish on it, can't remember where or when I got it - so I rattle canned it black. Comments, suggestions, criticisms all welcome. Thanks for looking. Rockytime Posted June 7, 2018 Report Posted June 7, 2018 Your table came out great. Finishing is my number one problem along with all my other problems. Nice work. Quote
