Scrappile Posted June 27, 2018 Report Posted June 27, 2018 I just ran across a post on Craigslist about "Tools For Veterans". Any one had any dealing with this organization? I have a few tools that I may be able to sell, but I could donate. I am leery about donating to just any organization though. I looks legit,,, but... Quote
WayneMahler Posted June 27, 2018 Report Posted June 27, 2018 I ca understand the feelings. Way too many folks taking advantage of soft hearted people meaning well. Never heard of that group. I was involved with a guy that sets stuff up for disabled veterans, he lives in Missouri though. I can write and ask him if you give me the information you have. Or I can call him too. Seems to very knowledgeable with these matters. Quote
Scrappile Posted June 27, 2018 Author Report Posted June 27, 2018 Thanks, Wayne. My problem is I do not feel a need to give to veteran that are not disabled. I am a veteran of VN and do not feel I am owed anything. I feel it was my privilege to serve. But, I am more than willing and want to help those veterans that were not as lucky as I and were injured, maned or disabled no matter where they served. This ad said nothing about "disabled" is the only reason I am leery. Also it said "Tools for Veterans". I searched that and only can up with "Tools for Troops". https://kpr.craigslist.org/tls/d/tools-for-veterans/6623164432.html I am cautious maybe overly, but I get the feeling that some are taking advantage of the great people that are trying to make up for the way VN veterans were originally treated,,, I appreciate the acknowledgment/appreciation of what we did, but it can be taken advantage of. I am still in awe of what WWII vets went through and they were there for the duration. I mean for years....... Just read a book "Citizen Soldiers", by Stephen Ambrose about the average person that served in WWII, what they were like and what they went through. I highly recommend it. Some, that survived spent years in combat.... Think about it.... No going home after a "tour". Sorry, got carried away. Something I am pretty passionate about... tgiro Posted June 27, 2018 Report Posted June 27, 2018 (edited) Paul - I googled them and came up blank. If they existed - good or bad - You'd find them on Google. Tools For Troops is real and has a website - tools4troops.org I'm like you, I get leery when people claim to be veterans. I give discounts to active and retired military when they buy my stuff, but ask for an ID card or Veterans card. I always support wounded warriors, although the national group doesn't impress me much. As a military retiree, I can pretty quickly determine when some idiot is playing on stolen valor. jerry1939 Posted June 27, 2018 Report Posted June 27, 2018 Quite a few cities have a Liberty Veterans Center. In our case, some veterans spend nights in a homeless shelter, must get out by day. They can spend there days at the Veterans Center. It has a gym, lots of large woodworking tools, automotive tools, etc. Also has a TV as big as a Buick. I have given some scroll saw workshops there, but those didn't generate a lot of interest. Attached is a piece I donated. You could also check with the nearest Legion Post. jerry Quote
WayneMahler Posted June 27, 2018 Report Posted June 27, 2018 Paul I just looked at the link you provided. What a shopping list. Like I also served and was lucky enough to come home. I too do a lot for the disabled vets . After reading Jerry's post it sounds like they may be some sort of rehab thing, trying to teach skills to get some back into a productive life. When I get a chance I'll call Dan and see what he knows about them. Quote
