Gimp 2.6 download help

I was hoping someone could help me with downloading the Gimp 2.6 that Travis uses in his videos.  I had my laptop crash and had to download Gimp  again but with 2.10 and I am lost with this new program.  I have looked at some sites but being computer illiterate I am not sure if I should go ahead with the downloads or not.  Kind of makes me nervous,  Does anyone know of a reliable website that I can safely download older programs.  Any help would be appreciated.

Terry. I too learnt about GIMP 2.6 from Travis and then after a computer glitch I too ended up downloading Gimp 2.10.

Gimp is programmable by users so the changes done during each change are usually small so all versions of Gimp work very simarlily. I found 2.10 did almost everything I needed, just in a snazzy chrome black configuration. I say go for it and see how you get on.

just after writing above, I remembered that last week I had another glitch and I wiped my computer completely, so right now I downloading 2.10 again.

I updated to GIP 2.10 and did not like the dark background and found that you can change back to the lighter colours.

under edit > preferences

under Interface edit theme > pick you pleasure.

 

Not a big GIMP user but it did what I wanted without a lot of change.
