How do I turn this into a pattern.

I'm not looking for a pattern (you can if you really want to !), what I'm looking for is to be told the way to make one. I've made a few portrait patterns as posted in earlier posts, one perfect one and several OK ones, but when I put this photo into GIMP I just hit a brick wall regarding texture and colours etc. Just point me in the right direction regarding the differences between working on portraits and photos like this.

Thanks

Bob

The first thing I would do to make a pattern out of this would be to open it in Gimp, I'm using 2.10.0. Then go to Filters, in the menu bar at the top, and then Artistic and then Photocopy. After tweaking the settings a little, and using the preview screen, you might end up with something like this.

Then you're gonna want to select the brush tool, reduce the size of the brush, change the colour to white and remove any unwanted shades. After that, you'll want to change the colour to black and fill in any areas that need filling. Doing an image like this is exactly the same as doing a portrait. It would probably help to remove the background first though.

Well Matthew, any image editing program can do this. All you need to do is get the fonts you want to use and the shapes you want and the idea and then start manipulating it. No program is going to do it all for you. There's usually a fair bit of work involved. Free programs you can use would be: Gimp, Paint.net, MS Paint or Inkscape. Paid programs could be: Photoshop, Corel Draw, Paintshop Pro.

To do this type of Word Art in Inkscape is quite easy.  The Trick is having a font that you like.

I did the attached in a couple of minutes with a font I had.  (Ancestory SF) but you could use a lot of different ones.  Now I posted I should have moved the dots on the I to the top of I.

If you don't know how Travis did a great 2 part video at https://youtu.be/jVYLAOoOG_o
