Well, my wife wanted another domed box to paint. This was was a little different than the ones I had done in the past since it was not a fully domed box like I have done in the past. A littler easier. I used my recently made ellipsograph to create the arch for the top. I used the cutoff of the sides for clamping the steamed 1/8" BBPW to the frame of the top. Titebond 3 glue to secure the top. Sides and top were cut with my I-box box joint jig. That really goes fast after setup. Material is 1/2" poplar 10" w x 8" D x 8" H. Sides were dato'ed to accept the 1/4" base. The absolute hardest part was figuring out how to make the lifting tray and keep it level as the box lid closed. I got close. 🤪I wish I had stayed awake in geometry class! The operating concept is a parallelogram. The top and bottom dimensions are the same and the sides are the same. As the parallelogram moves, the lower and top angles  equal 180 on the top an bottom to a total of 360 degrees. Here is where it gets tricky. The hinge for the top is the pivot point and the constant. To keep it level during the travel as the top closes, the forward lower pivot point has to be as near to level with the back hinge. That's tricky since there isn't much meat on the sides to attach. I got it close. Rockler makes a special, gee wiz, wing ding, super duper bracket but they sell it for $79!!!!. Don't think so. It took me a couple of days to make the box and figure out the lifting tray. It will go faster the next time.

Go figure, my wife had the pattern designed and painted in a few hours!😍

That is another beauty!!  If I make a box, the owner can just lift the tray out after they open the lid!!  I'm too old for complications of that sort!  You guys sure turn beautiful boxes.

Thanks, I always need a challenge. I need to stretch my brain. I'm not into that advertised jellyfish stuff, I'd rather smell sawdust.
