RabidAlien Posted September 2, 2019 Report Posted September 2, 2019 At the wife's "request", made a new top for the antique Singer sewing machine base. Also JBWeld'd the rod connecting the treadle to the flywheel, so now everything works together. 1x6 whiteboard from Lowes, ripped down to 2.25" strips (6" measured out to 5.5"). The old top was three 2x4's, stained, with a furring strip "frame" around them to which everything was attached. It was rough and crude, but made when all I had for woodworking was an old Craftsman table saw and a power drill. I'm gonna see if I can find a spot to use that old tabletop elsewhere... flarud Posted September 2, 2019 Report Posted September 2, 2019 (edited) I have about 6 or 7 of the old Singer and White bases. I have a few "slabs" made and have a few other kinds of tops in the works. I'll try to get some pics up. Yours look good btw. RabidAlien Posted September 3, 2019 Author Report Posted September 3, 2019 Love em!!! I've always wanted to try a slab with a resin fill, but dunno what I'd do with it once I got it filled! Quote

Scrappile Posted September 3, 2019 Report Posted September 3, 2019 They all look great. My wife also has one. She made it easy for me, she found a nice piece of granite somewhere, just the right size and that is what she uses for a top. I say easy for me, but not easy when it come time to move it. That top is very heavy. RabidAlien 1 Quote

The resin is expensive. RabidAlien 1 Quote
