Being of unsound mind & body, I stumped myself today.  Was tracing an image with the Bezier tool.  Started a few days ago.  Worked for a little while each time & let it set awhile.  Normally  set the stroke width to .015 inches.  Today I "lost" the canvas and couldn't see the lines I was drawing.  Checked line width of the earlier work & it showed a stroke width of 6.33 and I cannot change the drawing size with the plus or minus key.  It is "Grouped" & I can change drawing size with the arrows.

Today, moving the sliders on the side & bottom won't let me find the canvas.

Tried saving it to the desktop as a png file.  When "opening it" I get a blank screen.  The completed pattern is intact in inkscape.

Thoughts/suggestions, or should I just go ahead and check myself into the funny farm?

I don't use the + - keys

hold down control and scroll the mouse button back and forth, I forget which way zooms out, shift scroll wheel moves the display left or right

Once zoomed out it should show somewhere

inkscape will only print or save to png the area bounded by the page size you select in document properties.  in fact my page boundary is white and the rest of the inkscape work space is light green, make it easier on my eyes.

I design resize, mess up on pics outside that bounded page area, and only move the final product to the bounded area

If the item is grouped, use object ungroup, and or path break apart, sometimes repeatedly

Thanks Jim, but we are just doing things differently to reach the same destination.  If all else fails, just thought of it that I could take a Page Snip, save it & import it into a new document.  What I have is completed & ready to Save & Print.  If I shrink my piece down to a dot size, I still cannot locate the canvas.

Jim, your are probably the most (or darn close) to being the most kind hearted person to step right up to help.  Thank You for what you readily do.  That said, I checked everything you have shown, shrunk the pattern down to almost nothing, & still cannot locate the canvas. I could not open the svg pattern I posted earlier, but could open yours.

Took a screen shot of my pattern & saved it to pictures folder.  Imported it into a new document & it printed fine.  Saved that as PNG & will post it in New Patterns.

Again, Thank You Jim.  😀

To find your page, go to the "view" drop down menu, and select "zoom" to "page".  To get the drawing down near the page, go to "zoom" "drawing".  To get the drawing near the page, select the drawing, then look at the coordinates of the drawing in the upper bar.  Set the "x" and "y" coordinates to 0, which is where the page is located.  This will move the drawing down near the page.  Zoom to the drawing again, and they should be together at last.

Thank You Sir.  As soon as I post a pattern, I delete it, so I can't try that.  What you said certainly makes sense.
Thanks again Friend.

I believe you can press the "1" key or the "2" key. However, if you look at your horizontal and vertical rulers, look to see what the numbers are at. You may be way off from the main canvas or page. Press and hold your wheel button and move the canvas to one side or the other, depending if you see positive numbers or negative numbers. Same thing up or down. Then once you see a blip on the screen, then hold down the “CTRL” key and scroll your mouse wheel to zoom in on your project.

Hope this helps. I am also new at learning Inkscape myself.

I can't open it.  Lets forget it.  Will try Copy Paste onto a new document or redraw.  No big deal.  I'm just killing time.  Don't have time today.

Jerry, I opened it on my computer. You won't see it on your end. I ran into this problem back when I was trying to show a couple of pattern files. I do see you cowboy/horse/cactus pic with your name in the middle of it. Two different size lines.
