joleet Posted March 24, 2009 Report Posted March 24, 2009 This is probably written for Travis. If I make a pattern for a member, say in another site, can I put these patterns in my gallery on this site without the permission of the owner (requester) of the pictures???? I did 2 dogs for Roger using Travis' Adobe and Inkscape techniques and wanted to show them to all of you. Ron T. Quote
Travis Posted March 24, 2009 Report Posted March 24, 2009 I don't see a problem with it. If they are your patterns, you could distribute them anyway you want. Besides, it contributes to your design portfolio. Many people like to see what you have done in the past. Especially if they're buying your service. I'd go for it. I'd love to see your work. Quote
joleet Posted March 24, 2009 Author Report Posted March 24, 2009 OK Travis, I added the 2 dog patterns to "New Patterns" BUT, when I uploaded, dog 1 came out as a negative, how come??? They were basiscally identical when I uploaded them. I deleted dog 1, then took the original pattern, ran it thru inkscape again and it STILL came out as a negative. BOY am I confused. Ron T. Quote
Travis Posted March 24, 2009 Report Posted March 24, 2009 Boy, those patterns turned out great! I'm not sure why it came out negative. If you post your Inkscape file, I can take a look at it for you and see what I can figure out. Quote
Travis Posted March 24, 2009 Report Posted March 24, 2009 Actually, I might have an idea of what's going on. PNG format is a format that supports transparency. I'm wondering if the black is the transparent areas. Try putting a white box behind your pattern and and try that. Quote
joleet Posted March 24, 2009 Author Report Posted March 24, 2009 Travis I DID IT!!! I took the pattern and changed it from a png to a jpg file and it went thru. Thanks. ....Ron T. Quote
Travis Posted March 24, 2009 Report Posted March 24, 2009 Great! I'm glad it worked out for you. Yah, when I put stuff on this website, I use JPG mostly, so I never ran into that problem. I've decided to make a tutorial on how to export patterns for distribution. I have a few other tutorials in front of that, but I think it'll be a good one to have. Quote
joleet Posted March 24, 2009 Author Report Posted March 24, 2009 I'll do the same with jpg. SUPER about having more turorials. I don't know about the other members, but I for one will find at least one (or several) things that I didn't know. Keep up the good work. Ron T. Quote
Christina Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 Excellent job on your patterns Joleet! And yes, in my opinion, when you do a pattern request it is perfectly acceptable to share YOUR pattern with others as you see fit. I've done it many many times. Great idea on the tutorial Travis. Inkscape is a little difficult when you first start using it. I have my own little formula I use. I save all mine in .jpeg usually.............sometimes .gif. I think a tutorial like this would be a really great resource for anyone. Thank you. Thanks for sharing your patterns Joleet! Christina Quote
joleet Posted March 25, 2009 Author Report Posted March 25, 2009 Thank you for your very kind comments Christina My main hobby besides cutting is making portrait patterns, however, after reading some of member comments, I can see that anything is possible in pattern making. I have also learned that carrying a camera most of the time can be a lot of fun by taking the pictures taken and trying to produce some sort of a cuttable pattern with them. I agree with you Christina about Travis, we are very fortunate in having Travis and his concern in helping other members. The input from the members of this site are priceless! That's why this site is soo sucessfull. Quote
Christina Posted March 31, 2009 Report Posted March 31, 2009 You're quite welcome Joleet. Yes the possibilites in pattern making are endless and that I think is the fun of it. Keeps the creative juices really flowing lolol.........sometimes I drown trying to figure out how to do what I want! You are so right about carrying a camera. I always wish I had mine when I don't. The other day I was driving down a twisty windy road here I call squirrel alley because you really have to watch out so you don't hit one of the little critters.....anyway I had to slow way down, I got behind a horse and buggy and there was too much traffic to pass. There was an old tree that was part of fence and this big old fat red squirrel went scampering up it and kinda peaked over the top to look at me.........then he got up on the tree (it was cut off flat on top) and sat there posing and watching me. It was priceless and I just can't describe it well enough. I was kicking myself for forgetting my camera.......the pictures would have made really sweet patterns! That was one ham of a squirrel and so full of curiosity. Travis is a gem and you are right this is why this forum is so successful and will continue to be for as long as he wants it to! I really enjoy being a part of it. He fosters great teamwork..........and that is what makes a great site! Christina Quote
