Lucky2 Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 It's seems that maybe you have the wrong size of Morse taper to what your lathe is. The lathes and their after market goodies are sized by what is called Morse Taper and there is three main sizes and the most popular one of the three is #2. You may have a piece that is either #1 or #3, your owners manual will tell you what size you need for that particular lathe plus other important information. I suggest that you read it before doing anything with the lathe, it could save you from injuring yourself or doing damage to the lathe or the gouges. Len Quote
cjswoodcrafts Posted February 15, 2011 Author Report Posted February 15, 2011 Len, yeah i have read the manula atleast 2 dozen times, it is of no help, the guy i bought it from on ebay is giving me a head ache, on the box it came in has cmt item # 10017 mcs 1000 wood lathe been trying to find out who made the thing heres some pics Quote
Dan Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 Len is right. My old Craftsman had a #1 morse taper and it can be difficult to find accessories to fit. Rockler will take the mandrel back, but they sometimes don't keep the mandrel with a #1 morse taper in stock. You may have to order it from thier online store. Also, if you plan to start turning pens, visit http://www.pennstateind.com/. You'll start drooling over everything they have. Good luck with the turning and let us know when you have some photos to share. Dan Quote
Clayton717 Posted February 17, 2011 Report Posted February 17, 2011 if you were wanting to turn pens you can get a mandrel that will thread onto the headstock. but then again you would have to know the size of the threads such as 1x8 or 3/4" x 16. I know not much help. looking around on the web I found one that looks similar but still not a lot of info. http://www.alibaba.com/trade/search?Sea ... lCategory= Quote
