Hello all,

I recently picked up a Jet 20" Variable Speed scroll saw Model#JSS-20VS off Criags list for $15. It had the motor but no control panel. I figured with it being Jet, & at the price,  it should be an easy rebuild. I contacted Jet on inquiring info on parts & manuals. They sent me a PDF of the manual & 4 web sites for parts. I located the needed part , #JSS20VS-129A, Controller. After checking all 4 sites & very limited research on the internet, I could not locate this control board. I found several others but do not know if they are compatible & would rather not spend $100 to see if they are.

That is when i found this site and figured i would ask people who have experience with these saws. I have never owned, tore apart, or operated a scroll saw. Much less rebuild 1. With that being said, this is what i know so far:

After a tear-down, cleaning, & partial rebuild. The motor has 1 sticker on it ( wired for 115V )  & 4 wires coming out of it ( 1 blue, 1 red, 2 yellow ). When the red & blue wires are connected to the 115v house outlet, the motor spins. When the motor is connected to the arms, inside the saw,  it no longer spins. However it vibrates as if its trying to spin. I plugged it in using a Harbor Freight router speed controller (same red & blue wires) & with the controller turned as low as it will go the motor turns,,, slowly & hasitantly. It is easily stopped to return to its vibrating state.

Please know, i have not contacted Jet nor done any other research on this saw or controller. the 1st initial controller prices were pricey & I was wanting to see if it made any sense to proceed with this project. I do have photos i can email. My name is Scot

Hi Scot and welcome to the SSV. I know nothing about the Jet products and scroll saws in particular but with that said, I think the first thing I'd do is try to find a Jet service center. My minimal knowledge of electrical circuits tells me that the two yellow wires must be the wires that control the output from the controller to the motor and tell it how fast/slow to move. But, I might be all wet on that. Pictures are always good on this site because we like them. I'm not sure how many members have Jet saws but I know there are some. I have a feeling that you will get the answers that you need but it may take some time. Be patient and keep doing as much research as you can. I would think that Jet would be able to give you some input even if they no longer service the parts. Whoever they farm the repairs out to should be able to help. Best of luck.
