savethebeer Posted March 5, 2020 Report Posted March 5, 2020 The reason why I gave you a fun episode a day early was to make room for this post. My Ex21 has ceased to work. For about 4 weeks I've been noticing the beginnings of fluctuating revs whilst cutting. Wasn't much fluctuation till last weekend when it was either full revs or very slow. Then last Tuesday, after about 3 hours work it slowed to a stop within about 3 seconds, as opposed to instant stop when the fuse blows, which happened with a previous saw. Now I knew from here and from several FB groups that Excaliber saws were prone to issues with Rev settings and lots of advice to contact Ray from Seyco who was always very helpful. Unfortunately I'm on the wrong continent for Ray so I soldiered on till Tuesday. After it stopped working, and in trying to find a cause I realised that the motor was very hot, too hot to touch which was suprising. Any thoughts about why the motor would get so hot, or why it stopped working? From previous comments I know there have been relibility issues on machines built in Korea so I looked all over but could not see where it was made. Bob amazingkevin 1 Quote
JimErn Posted March 5, 2020 Report Posted March 5, 2020 Generally speaking an electric motor gets hot due to load vs current draw. When the windings (lower resistance than designed causes more current to flow)or bearings cause a load, the motor works harder, generates heat. Doubtful but if the input voltage is too high, that will do it too. Dust could cause it too, not real likely, but I would blow compressed air at it. If for some reason there is a lot of stop and go, that can cause heat build up too, the internal cooling fan has no chance to reduce ambient heat. Quote
amazingkevin Posted March 6, 2020 Report Posted March 6, 2020 I had a c_arm Craftsman do that and 1 DeWalt do it.it was the circuit board on the Craftsman ,burnt and the DeWalt it was the motor. I thought my singer sewing machine modified foot switch was the cause.i would turn it on and off to fast and the motor went hype speed Everytime. I,d say it ran 5 times as fast, crazy fast. If this helps ??? Quote
Rockytime Posted March 6, 2020 Report Posted March 6, 2020 You are not on the wrong continent, just a different continent. Quote
