Suggestions for Ladder Section on Fire Patch

I've tried several different ways to "break" the ladder section for this pattern, but every time it seems to "draw your eyes" to the breaks. Any ideas on the breaks? Thanks in advance & Be Safe!

Wood burn?  Paint pen?  Widen slightly and cut as an overlay?  Go for broke and make a double inlay?

I think it helps a little bit if you alternate each side with the bridges like my sample here
but, I have also seen people just put the bridge straight down the center of the ladder.
