The blade I use depends on what I'm trying to cut.  If I am cutting curves, I will use the blade that can cut the smallest curve, often a 1/4".  If I am cutting "straight" lines, I will go with a wider blade.   My saw will only cut 6" deep, so a 1/2" blade will resaw what I do.  One thing you need to learn with a bandsaw is how to change the blades so you can match the blade to the project.

Somewhere on one of the blade sites it had a chart to tell what size radius you can cut with whatever size blade.. I like timberwolf blades from PSwoods website.. But I just ordered two new woodslicer resaw blades from Highland yesterday.. Those seem to be quite highly spoken of.. I'd like to get the carbide tip resaw blade someday but $160 for my size blade.. Ouch.. The two blades I got only was like $70.. I've been resawing with the Timberwolf 3/4" blade but it's a few years old and getting kinda dull now..

I use 3/16" for most everything.  It would be able to cut the 6" circle without any relief cuts.  A 1/4" would probably be able to also.  I have 3/4" that came with the saw that I use for re-sawing on the rare occasion.

A 6" circle could be cut with any blade, using relief cuts.  However, it could be cut without relief cuts using a smaller blade, such as a 1/4".  If you are, for instance, making band saw boxes, there are internal cuts to be made which won't allow relief cuts.  So with most questions on what tool to use, it depends on what you are wanting to do.  There is usually more than one way to do anything.
