munzieb Posted December 19, 2020 Report Posted December 19, 2020 I have made a few of these boxes in the past. The 1/2" poplar joint box sides are easy to do with my I-box Jig. Routered a groove in the bottom for a 1/4" base. The dome is the more complicated part. I actually build a 2nd box frame and cut out the sides of the dome from that. I bend the 1/8" top in my steam box and use the cutout box frame as a mould to clamp and hold the top in place. I glue the top with Titebond 3. I used 2 side tape the top to the base and and sand everything even with the belt sander. I used a 9mm stop hinge for the top. Finish is shellac with several coats of Black Shellac. My wife did her wonderful paint work on the top and sides. meflick, Scrappile, Tomanydogs and 6 others 9 Quote
