Yes I turned the base on my lathe. It is called basket illusion. The weave around the outside I did with a wood burner. This is a picture of just the base.
Could be you are pushing too hard, trying to cut too fast. Try slowing down a little and see if that helps. I stack cut three of these. They are 1/4” plywood and I can cut it out with only two tiny 3/0 spiral blades.
Slow and steady is the key. Don’t try to cut any faster than the blade will allow. I made some crosses out of Purpleheart, that was some very slow cutting.
I use Arm R Seal. I thin it with around 10% mineral spirits. It won’t flake or peal. Everybody I know that sells bowls and things use this. Have you thought of using a small inexpensive air brush since what you are finishing is small.
Great news. Glad to hear you are doing good. I am in the shop a lot but have been bitten buy the wood turning bug so I haven’t used my scroll saw much.
I quit using packaging tape and have been using blue painters tape. The blue painters tape hold my stack cutting together great and comes off easy after.
Check out Keim Lumber in Ohio. They have a lot of specialty items also. I like to go up and look around because you always see a lot more in person than online. The place is huge.
